My Story
I am a sports journalist with a curious mind and an aptitude for telling compelling stories. I earned a Master of Arts in Sports Journalism from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University in December 2023. In 2022, I graduated from California State University, Sacramento, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies, a minor in journalism and a minor in marketing. I am a part of the Sports Journalism Institute Class of 2024. My career goal is to become one of the most impactful Black female digital sports reporter any newsroom has seen.
While obtaining a bachelor's degree in communications and a minor in journalism, I quickly realized I loved talking to people and finding out the details of one's life that allow me to tell stories that have an impact. Sports journalism allows me to do that, combined with my deep passion for sports.
I have always told myself that when I start my career, I want to be doing something that I enjoy. Now I know I want to have a successful and fulfilling career in sports journalism. I have great communication and time management skills. I am determined, responsible, hardworking and dependable. The skills I have gained in graduate school include Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Bridge, working with DSLR cameras, writing captions for photos, writing beat, feature and enterprise stories on deadline, interviewing and AP Style. During my internship with ESPN as a production assistant on SportsCenter and NBA Today I created and edited video elements including highlights and voiceovers for NBA/NFL free agency, NHL playoffs, Copa América, UEFA Euro League, MLB and WNBA. As a freelance reporter I have further developed my interviewing and reporting skills.
As there are few Black female sports journalists, I want to be a voice in a newsroom. When people at home read my stories, I want them to see a representation of themselves.
